Stas Sumarokov is a new media visual artist who lives and creates in Veliky Novgorod, Russia. His interest is in exploring balance between chaos and order, how strict mathematical rules can create organic looking objects. From his stage past he brought a fascination with lights and shadows.
To the visual art field Stas came after 10 years in performative arts and dance theatre, in a way this background influenced his understanding of 3D space and composition in it.
Wassily Kandinsky the expressionist artist with compositional works and pure balance of completely abstract forms influence Stas’s art while City of Arts and Sciences (Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias) by the architecture of Santiago Calatrava, it his favourite place of inspiration.
The creative process is experiments with algorithms and mathematical rules, not classical 3D rendering or digital illustration more like generative art and creative coding. His artworks are based on his video arts from which he captures movement through one moment. Stas wants the viewer wandering in his own thoughts staring at artworks, like we are looking at fire, flocking birds or sunset clouds.
